Carson achieved its city status on February 20, 1968 and it is the 8th largest city in the County of Los Angeles. During the last census taken, the population of Carson was 89,730. Carson's economy is based primarily on manufacturing. Close to half of the city is occupied by industrial buildings such as petroleum refineries. During the 1984 Olympics, the bicycle races were held in the city of Carson. Carson is home to California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). In Carson you will also find the Home Depot Center, which is a soccer stadium used by the Los Angeles Galaxy.
