Fountain Valley Community Information

Fountain Valley was originally known as a marshland called Gospel Swamp. The name Fountain Valley later came from the areas high water table. You could dig in many places in the area and find water. During the 1930s large farms gave way to truck farming, mostly by Japanese-American farmers, in the community then known as Talbert. Today Fountain Valley is mostly a middle class community with a population of 54,978 according to the 2000 census taken. The area is also home to the Mile Square Regional Park, which is a 640 acre park containing three 18 hole golf courses, two lakes, and a 20 acre urban nature area. Fountain Valley is also home to the Hyundai Motor Company. Much of the farmland of Fountain Valley is being taken over today by commercial property.
