Lancaster Community Information

Lancaster in an unincorporated farming community located in the northeast part of Los Angeles County. Lancaster�s location is in the Antelope Valley which is part of the Mojave Desert. The community of Lancaster California was settled in the late 19th Century by M.L. Wicks, a real estate developer. Lancaster is the eighth largest city in its county with a population last counted at 143,818. During the 1930's Lancaster began to grow with the development of Edwards Air Force Base located close by. In 1947 Bob Hope's radio broadcast originated in Lancaster. Another wave of home buyers came into the area during the 1970's again due to the growing aviation industry. Due to the higher incomes paid and the lower house prices about 70% of the residents own their own home. Lancaster belongs to the Antelope Valley Unified School District.
