Moorpark Community Information

Moorpark was founded in 1887 by Robert W. Poindexter. After the completion of a 7369-foot tunnel through the Santa Susana Mountains, this allowed the Southern Pacific Railroad to establish a depot there, a depot which lasted until 1964. Moorpark College was founded in 1963. 20 years later, Moorpark was incorporated as a city on July 1, 1983. It has been stated but not yet been officially recognized that Moorpark got its name from the Moorpark Apricot which use to grow in the area. There is a neighborhood nearby Moorpark High School, known by many area residents as "Candy Cane Lane" Specifically, Willow Hill Dr. The residents in the neighborhood elaborately decorate their homes for Christmas. The population of Moorpark at last count was 31,415, taken from a 2000 census.
