Palmdale Community Information

Palmdale first received its name from a German family that named it "Palmenthal". Palmdale has steadily been known as one of the fastest growing cities in the country. It was the first community in the entire Antelope Valley area, incorporating in August 4, 1962. Palmdale was recognized as the sixth largest city in Los Angeles County after its last population count of 141,012. Because of its rapid growth, Palmdale has made many improvements to the city. It contains the largest sheriffs department in Los Angeles County. Currently in construction is what is soon to be the largest medical center in the area. Other improvements have included new senior centers and housing units. In 1991 the Antelope Valley Mall opened and that made it the area with the highest amount of traffic in the entire Mojave Desert. The aerospace industry has been the most important industry in Palmdale for quite sometime. Most recently the manufacturing industry has taken off in the area.
