Redondo Beach Community Information

Early Redondo Beach was a 400 acre resort for travelers. In 1889 Hotel Redondo was built, with 225 rooms and a bathroom on every floor. People really started moving to the Redondo Beach area right after World War II. Today Redondo Beach is filled with many local attractions to see. The Marina, Harbor and Pier complexes are large, planned centers of activity that host restaurants, bars, smaller shops and an arcade. A revitalized downtown area affectionately termed "Riviera Village" (named so after the Hollywood Riviera, which is the area it is in) provides locals an opportunity to eat, shop and commune in a quiet atmosphere. In its early history Redondo Beach attracted mostly fisherman of many descents that lived in the southern part of the city. Today the majority of Redondo Beach�s population consists of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The average price of a home in the area is well over one million dollars. The last population count of Redondo Beach is 63,261, according to a 2000 census.
