The city was incorporated on August 4, 1959. The city of Rosemead is located 11 miles east of Los Angeles on what once was rolling grassland between the Los Angeles River and modern day Pomona. Rosemead is an area with a more working class people, and a large population of Latinos and Asians. Garvey Avenue is the main strip of the city where you will find the local Asian influence on businesses. Edison International, Panda Express and Huy Fong Foods, Inc. are examples. of some of the local business in the area. Some of Rosemead's attractions are Whittier Narrows Golf Course, the American Military Museum, and the Chinese Cultural Center. The city is easily accessible to a variety of other Los Angeles area highways including Interstates I-5, I-605, and I-710. Rosemead’s population at last count was 53,505, according to a census taken in 2000.
