San Clemente Community Information

The city of San Clemente was founded in 1925 by real estate developer Ole Hanson who named it San Clemente after a town in Spain. San Clemente was incorporated soon after its founding in 1928. Later on in 1969 Richard Nixon purchased a home in the area which came to be a gathering point for many historical meetings. During the next 20 years San Clemente had a booming population increase. Its location is at the southern most point of Orange County, and it is the home to the military base Camp Pendleton. The economy is roughly made up of light manufacturing, state beaches, national forest, and several vacation spots. San Clemente is part of the Capistrano Unified School District. Many world famous surfers are from San Clemente.
