Simi Valley Community Information

The original in inhabitants of Simi Valley were the Chumash Indians. Later came the Spanish Colonists who established El Rancho Simi as the one of the earliest land grants within Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. In the late 19th he small colonial town known as "Santa Susana del Rancho Simi" thrived with a Spanish-speaking majority, but many Anglo-Americans arrived to settle lands into farms, orchards and groves dominated the valley's landscape until 1980. The first school was built in 1890 on the northeast side of Simi Valley, but later it was torn down in 1926. A good part of Simi Valley was also destroyed in 1952 by a flood. After recuperating from that, the city was incorporated as Simi Valley in 1969 with a population at that time of 10,000. Boys Town West is a youth camp/home facility that was found in Simi Valley in 1972. Simi Valley repeatedly has been in the top 10 as one of the safest cities in the country.
